It shouldn’t be a surprise that many Malaysians do not know that the Leberwurst is meant to be used as a spread, typically on toast, bread, or crackers. It also has another common name: Pork Liver Pâté. Pâté simply means a paste, pie, or loaf consisting of a mixture of finely ground meat, fat, and liver. There are many types of Pâté in the world such as: leverworst (Dutch), pate or lebăr (Romanian), májpástétom/májkrém (Hungarian), or Leberwurst (German). Some in the United States of America also call them liverwurst (combining English and German).
Recently, we have revised our leberwurst product packaging to better cater to the market. Previously, our pork liver Pâté was packaged in a sausage format as those found in Germany. However, we noticed that the local market are not exactly used to that. The awareness of this particular product is also low. Therefore, we decided to repackage it in a bottle format to make it easier to use and store.
The Leberwurst has a smooth and pasty texture which makes it a great spread! The taste though is very much depending on the individual. For those who like the taste of pork liver, they will most definitely enjoy this delicacy. It has a refreshing note when you first bite into it followed by a creamy mouthfeel. The lingering after taste will then have you asking for more…
The most common choices are to simply scoop and spread them on a toast for a quick bite. This is very convenient for those who have little time to prepare for breakfast or just want to have an easy snack in the afternoon.
If you have a bit of time, the Leberwurst also goes well on simple water crackers with other cured meats such as salami, ham, and sausages. Add in some nuts, fresh grapes, cheese, and cherry tomatoes, and you’ll have yourself a charcuterie board.
Pie lovers also can incorporate our pork liver Pâté into their stuffing as well. It will melt in the oven and mix well with all the other ingredients in the pie.
