In style 1 we have minimal additions as the main presentation is the meat itself. We highly encourage our customers to refer to Style 2 for inspiration as it’s a more comprehensive board.
So what goes well with cured meat on a charcuterie board? Complimentary ingredients should be considered based on taste, texture, and colour (yes, colour, visuals are as important as taste, especially for a charcuterie board).
Since the meat is salty, some sweetness to balance the taste would be suitable. Options are sweet apples, grapes, strawberries, rockmelon, cheery tomatoes, peaches, etc. Then, you can add some tanginess to make the flavours pop. Options are pickled olives, pickled cucumbers, oranges, pears, etc.
For a different texture, we recommend some nuts, dried fruits, and water crackers.
Popular and most accessible mix nuts you can get locally is pistachios, cashews, pecans, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, and hazelnuts. You can roast them on a pan for a few minutes before plating. The heated oils in the nuts will enhance the aromas and provide a deeper layer of flavours.
Water crackers are recommended as a texture enhance because it’s usually plain, without much strong flavour. This is perfect for your charcuterie board because you already have so much going on. A simple carb base acts as a blank canvas for all the other savouries and sweetness to fall on nicely. Besides, you can spread whatever you have on the cracker – liverwurst, fruit jam, cheese spread, butter, etc.
